Where the calculator baselines come from
The premium and cost figures behind these tools trace back to named sources: MoneyGeek's state and breed pricing reports, NAPHIA's State of the Industry data, and typical vet fee ranges gathered from published clinic pricing. The Texas page also draws on the American Heartworm Society's incidence survey and the Texas Department of Insurance's consumer guidance. Each article states which source backs which number, and links to it so you can check it yourself.
How often figures get checked
Rate data moves, insurers adjust pricing, and vet costs drift with inflation. We revisit the calculator constants and cited figures on a rolling basis and note the update date at the top of each article. If you notice a stale number before we do, that is exactly the kind of report the contact page is for.
What a byline means here
The name under an article is the person who researched and wrote it. Writers work from public sources, not insider access to any insurer's rate tables, and none of them sell insurance. Chris Terry oversees the site but does not write the cost and coverage articles himself.
Affiliate links and independence
A handful of links on this site are affiliate links, and a commission from one of them never decides which insurer, clinic, or product gets mentioned favorably. If a number or a recommendation ever looks like it was shaped by an affiliate deal rather than the underlying data, that is a bug, tell us and we will correct it.
Corrections
Report an error through contact with the page and the specific figure in question. Confirmed mistakes get corrected on the page itself, not quietly buried.
